White Water
It’s hard to imagine a better base camp than Serre- Ponçon for whitewater enthusiasts with its rivers recognized throughout Europe for the quality of its rapids. On one side there is the Ubaye, the last river of the French Alps with natural flow offering 52km of descent and 60 rapids to navigate. Further north, about a dozen minutes by car, the Guil river in the Queyras is also a river that rafters and kayakers dream about.
It’s a hidden gem of a river embellished by its wild environment. Between the two, the Durance, the easiest river to access, proposes a varied and progressive descent. Fed by the glaciers from the Ecrins mountains the flow is strong enough even in the middle of the summer. At Châteauroux-les-Alpes, the Rabioux wave is a freestyle destination for riders from around the world.
