Description
Les Capucins contemporary art center offers four to five exhibitions a year.
Visits by appointment throughout the week during opening hours. Reservations by email or telephone.
Les Capucins contemporary art centre is located in Embrun in the Hautes-Alpes region. Housed in a church refurbished in 2011, it organises exhibitions and events within its walls from April to November, and outside the walls throughout the year.
Artists are usually invited to create new works, taking into account the specific context of the host venue. This involvement on the production side, coupled with canvassing work, enables the art centre to position itself, not simply as a relay for what has already been exhibited, but at the start of the distribution chain.
As well as exhibitions and artistic events (performances, readings, concerts, video screenings, etc.), Les Capucins regularly organises meetings with art professionals and screenings of documentary films, the Apéros Docs.
Individual support is systematically offered to each visitor to the exhibitions. Rather than a visit, this meeting takes the form of an exchange, usually informal, around the issues raised by the works presented.
The contemporary art centre is also developing an awareness-raising programme for schoolchildren, who come from all over the department to take advantage of the visits and workshops. Les Capucins welcomes more than 1,000 schoolchildren to each of its exhibitions.
Finally, since 2017, the centre d'art contemporain has been offering two residencies for research and experimentation, one by invitation and one based on a call for projects.
