Description

The Chanteloube bridge or Moulettes viaduct: the unfinished railway line.

This is one of the main engineering structures built as part of the project to build a railway line from Grenoble to Bercelonnette.
Begun in 1910, construction was finally halted in 1934 in favour of the Veynes/Briançon line.
Since the construction of the Serre-Ponçon dam, the Chanteloube bridge has been completely submerged during the 3 weeks when the lake is at its highest, and partially submerged at the normal level of 780 metres.
In winter, when the lake is at its lowest, you can almost cross the bay on foot.
